Art of Recovery

 

Fredericksburg, Virginia – Thank you to everyone who supported the eighth annual “The Art of Recovery” exhibit on display at The PONSHOP in Fredericksburg during the month of May. The Art of Recovery provides a forum for artists living with mental illness to gain confidence in their abilities, address misconceptions surrounding mental illness, and experience community support.

A record number 170 submissions were received from across the state. A total of 60 pieces from 38 artists were displayed. A total of 17 pieces were sold during the month. (Sold pieces are not a part of the traveling exhibit.)

 

The Walkerton Tavern, Henrico: June 2 – 20
The exhibit will once again travel to the beautiful Walkerton Tavern for display from June 2 through June 20, 2012. The Walkerton Tavern is located at 2892 Mountain Road, Glen Allen. This is the third consecutive year they have hosted this exhibit. It will be a part of the first annual Mountain Road Art Exhibit. The traveling exhibit is being coordinated in partnership with the Henrico Area Mental Health and Developmental Services Board. A public reception w ill be held June 3, 2012 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The Walkerton Tavern hours of operation are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

 

Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services, Richmond: June 25 – July 13
At the invitation of Commissioner James Stewart, pieces from the exhibit will also be on display at the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) in Richmond from June 25 through July 13, 2012.

 

Founded in 1970, the Rappahannock Area Community Services Board (RACSB) provides public mental health, intellectual disability, substance abuse, and prevention/early intervention services to the residents of the City of Fredericksburg and the counties of Caroline, King George, Spotsylvania, and Stafford. RACSB operates six outpatient clinics which provide individual, group and family therapy; specialized counseling and case management services; psychological assessment; 24-hour crisis intervention; and medication management services. RACSB operates ten group homes for adults with intellectual disability providing 24-hour intensive and structured support. RACSB also offers mental health day support, residential services, and crisis stabilization The Sunshine Lady House for Mental Health Wellness & Recovery. The Parent-Education – Infant Development Program provides developmental, physical, occupational, and speech therapies as well as service coordination to infants and toddlers with developmental delays. Programs of RACSB include Kenmore Club, Rappahannock Adult Activities, Inc., Project LINK, Program for Teen Parents, Rappahannock Area Kids on the Block, DARE To Be You – Rappahannock Area, Second Step, Too Good for Drugs, and Healthy Families – Rappahannock Area.
